The Benefit Coordinators Remind Federal and Postal Families: Secure Your Dog, Protect Your Mail Carrier – and Your Retirement
SAND SPRINGS, OK — As advocates for the safety, well-being, and financial future of Federal and Postal employees, The Benefit Coordinators are supporting the U.S. Postal Service’s 2025 Dog Bite Awareness Campaign, “Secure Your Dog, Keep Deliveries on Track.” This year’s campaign hits close to home — with more than 6,000 USPS mail carriers injured by dog attacks in 2024, the safety of your coworkers, neighbors, and family members is more important than ever.
“Every injury sustained by a federal employee is more than a statistic — it’s someone’s spouse, parent, or child,” said John Sanders, Agency Director of The Benefit Coordinators. “If you’ve spent your career serving the American people, whether behind the counter or out on your delivery route, you deserve to retire with your health, your income, and your dignity intact.”

What You Can Do Right Now
For families of Postal workers and Federal employees alike, these incidents are preventable. Please help protect our workforce and preserve your mail carrier’s ability to serve — and retire — without injury.
Three Simple Ways to Keep Your Carrier Safe:
✅ Secure your dog before your mail carrier arrives — use a separate room or fenced yard.
✅ Don’t let children take mail directly from the carrier while a dog is present.
✅ Sign up for USPS Informed Delivery to know when mail is arriving.
“Even one dog bite can disrupt a career,” Sanders added. “That can mean lost wages, medical expenses, and in some cases, early retirement due to injury — not on your terms. As specialists in lifetime income and retirement planning for federal workers, we urge you: don’t let a preventable incident change someone’s retirement outlook.”
Protect People and Protect Pensions
At The Benefit Coordinators, our mission is to educate Federal and Postal employees about how to build safe, secure, tax-free income in retirement. But part of that security starts today — with your actions in the community. When our delivery professionals are safe, their benefits remain intact. Their families are protected. And their future — just like yours — can remain on track.
Let’s work together to keep our mail carriers safe, healthy, and on the path to a retirement they’ve earned.
